PLEASE NOTE: Mendums Pond will be CLOSED August 23rd through August 28th for the UNH PAWS program. Thank you for your understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We will re-open for the weekend of August 29-30, and will be open every weekend in September, as well as Labor Day, Monday September 7th.

Mendums Pond Recreation Area
The Outdoor Recreation Area is a beautiful 200-acre site just nine miles from Durham. The pond is located on the Little River, a tributary of the Lamprey River and part of the larger Piscataqua River watershed. The Area is perfect for boating and picnicking. A wonderful children's area is provided and canoes and paddle boats are available for rent. Swimming is permitted, however, there are no lifeguards on duty. The area will be open the following hours:

Off Season Group Event Reservations

 

Alcohol and pets are prohibited. You may purchase a "Mendums Pond Pass" if you only wish to use the Mendums Pond Recreation Area and not other campus recreation facilities. Directions and additional information about use of the area are available at the Service Desk in the Hamel Recreation Center.

Directions
From Durham, take Route 4 West to the Lee traffic circle. Travel 2.5 miles west of the Lee Traffic Circle on Route 4 and take a right just past the power lines (you'll see a small sign for UNH Rec area). Travel on this road for approximately 0.5 miles, you'll see a chain link fence gate on the left, this is the main road into Mendums Pond.
Group Events
Groups can reserve the Mendum's Pond recreation area for a group outing during our regular summer hours, or during the fall. If you would like to make a reservation, or find out more, please contact us at 603-862-2056, or email. See below to find out more.

UNH Groups and Affiliates

Reservations must be made 2 weeks in advance, and include:

  • Exclusive use of a picnic area/campsite whlie Mendum's is open
  • Discount rate on boat use
  • Trash cans & Liners - We will provide trash cans and liners to help your group keep the area neat and clean. You are responsible for taking all trash out of the area with you. (NOTE: A clean-up fee will be charged to groups that leave garbage at their site.)
  • Access to trails, orienteering course, swimming area, docks, etc
Reservation Fee: $2.00/person
Boat Rate: $2.00/boat/hour
Add exclusive use of pavillion $20.00/pavillion flat fee
Additional Staffing (off-hours, special events, etc.) $20.00/hour

Non-UNH Groups
