The Outdoor Recreation Area is a beautiful 200-acre site just seven miles from Durham. The pond is located on the Little River, a tributary of the Lamprey River and part of the larger Piscataqua River watershed. The Area is perfect for boating and picnicking. Lakeside picnic areas are provided and canoes and paddle boats are available for rent. Swimming is permitted, however, there are no lifeguards on duty.

Regulations: Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. You may purchase a "Mendums Pond Pass" if you only wish to use the Mendums Pond Recreation Area and not other campus recreation facilities. Directions and additional information about use of the area are available at the Service Desk in the Hamel Recreation Center. |
Directions:
From Durham, take Route 4 West to the Lee traffic circle. Travel 2.5 miles west of the Lee Traffic Circle on Route 4 and take a right just past the power lines (you'll see a small sign for UNH Rec area). Travel on this road for approximately 0.5 miles, you'll see a chain link fence gate on the left, this is the main road into Mendums Pond.

| From Durham, take Route 4 West to the Lee traffic circle. Travel 2.5 miles west of the Lee Traffic Circle on Route 4 and take a right onto Hall road just past the power lines (you'll see a brown sign for UNH Rec area on Rte 4). Travel on Hall road for approximately 0.5 miles, you'll see the Recreation drive street sign and gate on the left, this is the access road into the UNH Rec Area on Mendums pond!
