The UNH Taekwondo Club teaches WTF(World Taekwondo Federation) style Taekwondo, with a focus on training both the body and mind in unison. Students learn the concentration, focus, and discipline they need to excel in their academic classes, while releasing their college stresses in a healthy, productive and fun way!
Our club was founded in 1983 by Sensei Steven Warren, who was trained by Teroyuki Okazaki Sensei and Hirokazu Kanazawa, former students of the founder of Shotokan Karate: Gichin Funakoshi. Since 1987 we have had the pleasure of hosting several instructors, who were students of both our organization and Sensei Warren’s dojo in Rochester, NH. Our current instructor Michael Saputo has been teaching classes in 1996.
The sailing team travels competes in a very active intercollegiate schedule within the New England district, which is home to the largest and strongest district in college sailing. The team has also made occasional trips to more southern schools as well as to the west coast.
We are interested in bringing highly motivated scholar athletes to the University. Over the past years students have come to the University from such programs as St. Paul's, Phillips Exeter Academy and The Gunnery, and such clubs as Great Bay Rowing, Durham Boat Club, Upper Valley Rowing Club, Hanover Rowing Club and the Augusta Youth Rowing Club. However, no previous rowing experience is required to be a competitive collegiate rower. The majority of our rowers did not begin the sport until college.
