The Henry "Hank" C. Swasey indoor pool, located in the Field House, was dedicated in 1969 and consists of an eight-lane competitive lap pool ranging in depth from 4.5 to 13.5 feet, with 1- and 3-meter spring boards. The spectator area holds up to 610 people in bleacher seating, with an additional 232 people on the deck level, which includes a handicap viewing area.

Swasey Indoor Pool will have its final day of spring operations on Tuesday, April 16th for renovations to the Women’s locker rooms. The Swasey indoor pool will remain closed for renovations through September 2024. A tentative reopening date has been set for October 21st, 2024.

Important Information

What is the difference between lap and open swim?

During Lap Swim, the pool is designated for fitness purposes (e.g. swimming laps, aqua jogging, etc.). It may also be used for private instruction with a Campus Recreation aquatics instructor. Participants must be at least eighteen years old or current UNH students.  
Lap/Open Swim is designated for mixed usage (fitness and recreational usage) and is available to participants of any age with the payment of the daily fee or season pass purchase. Guests under fourteen years of age must be accompanied by an adult.


What is the length of the pool?

The pool is twenty-five yards in length. Here is a link to how many laps are in a swim mile.


What is the temperature of the pool?

The pool is typically 81-82 degrees.


What is the difference between the diving pool and the rest of the pool?

The entire pool is eight lanes wide.  The Diving Well and diving boards are located in lanes 7 and 8  with lanes 1 through 6 reserved as lap lanes.  Lap lanes lanes can be reserved independently or all together and it's possible to have multiple uses of the pool simultaneously.
A partial reservation of the pool (multiple usage times) are designated on the schedule with gray asterisks on the pool schedule .


Do I need to bring my own towel to the pool?

Yes, towel service is not available.

All Swasey Indoor Pool memberships and Multi-Visit Passes (MVPs) must be purchased in person at the Hamel Recreation Center Welcome Center on 5 Edgewood Rd, Durham, NH 03824.

The Swasey Indoor Pool will be open to the public Monday, October 21.

Spring Swasey Memberships will be posted in mid-November.

Refund Policy

Annual Memberships or Semester Memberships – Nonrefundable.  Reminder expires 365 days from date of purchase.

Seasonal Memberships – No Refunds. Reminder expires at duration of the season.

MVP or Multi-Visit Passes - Non-refundable and non-transferable. Reminder expires 365 days from date of purchase.

Refunds for extenuating circumstances will be considered but not guaranteed by the Coordinator of Member Services. Requests must be submitted via email during the valid time of membership, not after expiration.
